Powell examines cost of tax increase for ‘typical resident’

After years of discussion, the City of Powell’s finance committee is close to making an official recommendation that city council seek a tax increase.

City officials have proposed asking voters to approve a 1.25-percent income tax hike in November, which they say will bring an additional $3 million in annual revenues for needed capital improvement projects. The city, however, has not reached a conclusion on the timing of the request, the size of the request and whether it should be an income tax, property tax or combination of both.... Cont'd
