Sometimes the last name says it all.

Rachelle Roll, a Buckeye Valley graduate and current Carnegie Mellon senior, ended her collegiate career on a roll, nabbing University Athletic Association (UAA) women’s basketball player of the week honors late last month.

Roll ended the season on Feb. 27, posting a double-double by coupling a career-high 22 points with 15 rebounds. She hit all nine of her free throws and finished the season third on Carnegie Mellon’s all-time rebounding list, seventh all-time in blocked shots and eighth in career assists.

In addition to the player of the week recognition, Roll earned a spot on the D3hoops.com Team of the Week as she averaged 11 points, 19.5 rebounds, two steals and two assists in leading the Tartans to a 1-1 mark.

In the first game — a 64-60 overtime win over Emory — Roll topped her own school record of 20 rebounds by hauling in 22 boards while equaling a 21-year-old UAA record for most defensive rebounds with 17. She also tallied 13 points to record her third double-double of the season. In the other game — a 55-49 setback to the University of Rochester — she finished with nine points and 17 rebounds.
